Being/With: Home

I've been wanting to write about Nichole Canuso's Being/With: Home for months because it is one of the most powerful experiences of digital connection I have had during the pandemic. A dance for just two audience members, guided by an unseen voice, it allows the two zoom participants to share memories, gestures, and objects from home. It is simple, and powerful, and builds towards deep connection. When I participated last winter (during a presentation by Bates Dance Festival) I was convinced that my co-participant was, in some way, a future version of myself. When it was time to say goodbye I felt significant grief. I encourage others to take a look at the work and consider how we can deepen connection through movement and sharing across digital divides.
